Some profile resets are caused by Steam Cloud sync conflicts, where older or incorrect cloud saves overwrite valid local data.
๐ง How the issue happens
Steam Cloud does not always determine which save is the most recent or correct.
If a mismatch occurs, it may:
- Upload an outdated save to the cloud
- Overwrite your local progress on launch
- Continuously sync incorrect data between sessions
๐ ๏ธ Troubleshooting Steps
1. Disable Steam Cloud temporarily
- Steam โ Library
- Right-click Ships At Sea โ Properties
- Disable Steam Cloud
This prevents further overwriting while troubleshooting.
2. Verify local save integrity
- Launch the game with Cloud disabled
- Check if your progress is:
- โ Correct โ your local save is intact
- โ Reset โ local save has already been overwritten
If your progress is correct at this stage, proceed.
3. Force Steam to prioritize local saves
- Close the game
- Re-enable Steam Cloud
- Launch the game again
When prompted with a Cloud Sync Conflict:
๐ Select โLocal Filesโ (not Cloud)
This ensures your current progress overwrites the Cloud version.
4. Confirm sync behavior
After resolving the conflict:
- Play for a few minutes
- Exit the game normally
- Allow Steam to sync
This updates the Cloud with the correct save state.
โ ๏ธ Important Notes
- Always choose Local files if your progress is correct locally
- Choosing Cloud files may restore an older or empty profile
- Avoid switching between multiple PCs without confirming sync status
- Interruptions (crashes, forced shutdowns) increase risk of sync conflicts
