With Update v0.8.6, Ships At Sea will have dedicated server support, providing a more stable and scalable multiplayer experience. At the same time, we will continue to support the existing peer-to-peer multiplayer mode, allowing players to easily play together with their friends as before. In addition, we plan to increase the maximum number of players per session, creating larger, more dynamic multiplayer environments.
Peer-to-Peer (P2P):
With peer-to-peer multiplayer, a player creates a session directly from the game, and friends can join that session. One player acts as the host, and the game runs through that player’s connection.
Dedicated Servers:
With dedicated server support, a server is hosted independently from any individual player. Any players can join the hosted server session, and the server continues running regardless of whether the original host is online. Servers can also be password-protected, allowing for either public or private sessions. This setup provides improved stability and supports larger multiplayer sessions.
